A DAY TO HONOR THE NATIVE AMERICANS

Human to human

A life in the past

History teaches us

What we were at last

Coming together at a table long ago

With plentiful delights

To share with people already here

Everyone comes to celebrate this day

In a new tradition

We’ve grown to love

Thanksgiving past,

The Redskins play football on the TV

Against the Cowboys,

A great American rivalry!

Today we look through what we know

And discover new things our teachers

Did not want us to know,

Like the Mexican American war against the Spaniards

In the West,

And how fierce the American Indians fought to protect

Their land and fortress

Come together today, in an honest and more

Spiritual way

To honor those that came before us

And who they are today.

To give them a day to themselves

To remember their history and of who came before

To teach our children

Customs and culture and old folklore

An Indigenous People’s day!

Let’s celebrate them in their own way.

I won’t rest until I know this is so

A day in November

Make it a go!
