BOOKS
UNDERSTANDING SOCIALISM
I wrote this book for my niece, and I realized if I could help her understand, then I could reach out to other teens and youths of America to understand the dangers of socialism and how it can impact your life as an American. What freedom is, and how to best utilize the free enterprise system America has to offer. It is written from the perspective of your Aunt Kitty. I blend historical events and people and apply them to the current events of today in 2022. Anyone may enjoy this book.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Madeleine “Kitty” Templeton graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA and has lived in Washington DC most of her life. Witnessing politics and protests in Estonia, the former Soviet Union, in 1990, and from extensive study of Russian History, Madeleine has gained a unique perspective on socialism and communism. In living in the Nation’s capital, and from witnessing the national and local politics of Washington DC, Kitty has learned a thing or two about America. As the daughter of Pat Templeton, a conservative political consultant, growing up she has met several influential Republicans including Ronald Reagan, Bob Dole, and Tom Ridge and has finally come around to understand the conservative perspective and this philosophy and the true principles of standing up for your freedom, and the dangers of socialism creeping into America.
Kitty Templeton is also a Singer/Songwriter and Poet in the Washington DC community. You may find her book, music and poetry here at her website: www.AuntKittysCorner.com. Stay tuned for Aunt Kitty’s next Artistic creation!
POEMS FROM THE GREEN
To celebrate writing done by members of two groups, Writers on the Green Line and Poets on the Green Line, a group of us have come together to develop a collection of poetry composed during sessions or about themes explored in those sessions over the past 20 years. The group meets once a month for a writing workshop, an open mic opportunity, and poetry comradery. Workshops aim to spark new writing through exercises that have included words, photos, musical prompts, collage making, and other innovative ways to approach the art of writing. Poets on the Green Line generally presents monthly themes based on seasonal or topical events to inspire group writing as well as sessions where writers share work written outside the group. Themes could be seasonal (such as Fall Foods, Summer Reflections, Spring is in the Air and Winter Sports). We wrote during the pandemic on the concepts of New Beginnings, Better Together, Working Wonders and Dream in a Pandemic. We wrote about Mother Nature's Creations, Gratitude, Memorable Moments of 2021, Portrait of Flowers, America the Beautiful and Better with Age. Our book, Poems from the Green is a book consisting of a collection of these poems from our members and guest facilitators highlighting poems written during theseworkshops, and including “free write” poems read in our open mic opportunities. We, the Poets on the Green Line, hope you enjoy our collection, and inspire you to keep on writing!
ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Poems from the Green is a celebration of writing done by members of two Washington, DC, area groups, Writers on the Green Line and Poets on the Green Line, in conjunction with interactive workshops that have been running for nearly twenty years. Just before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, a group of us came together to develop a collection of poetry composed during sessions or about themes explored in those sessions. Poems from the Green contains work by some of the many writers and facilitators who have participated in meetings over the years.
